Deputies: Brandon man faces charges after robbing victim at an ATM at gunpoint

A Brandon man faces charges after deputies say he walked up to a person at an ATM in Brandon on Saturday, pulled out a gun and demanded money.

Around 8:10 p.m., deputies say Estevan Lerma, 20, approached the victim while they were using the Suncoast Credit Union ATM at 1370 Oakfield Dr. in Brandon.

Lerma took out a silver, .40 caliber handgun and demanded the victim's money, deputies said.

When Lerma obtained an undisclosed amount of cash, the victim tried to grab the gun, deputies said.

The firearm went off during the struggle and Lerma fled the scene, deputies said. No one was injured.

Deputies identified and located Lerma on Monday. He was arrested and faces a charge of robbery with a weapon ($300 or more).

He is being held at Hillsborough County Jail without bond, jail records show.
