Trump brings social polarization to the level of the Vietnam war
He was the division's candidate. Won with fewer votes than his rival. And since he entered the White House he has not stopped polarizing. A poll by the Washington Post reveals that President Donald Trump has brought the United States to one of the biggest fractures in recent history: seven of every consulted citizen believes that a division similar to the one that led to the Vietnam war is being lived . The survey, conducted with the University of Maryland, shows the pessimism that has been installed in the US and that the arrival to Trump's power has only deepened. Far from regaining the credibility of the class politics, the candidate who presented himself as an antisystem has sunk into the swamp he promised to drain. Their jolts are seen as a new form of normalcy, and the disrepute of the institutions that he was going to straighten up has increased to the point that 70% of respondents believe that their administration is dysfunctional (80% in the case of Congress). It is hard to tell whether this discredit is good or bad for Trump's electoral purposes and his eternal flirtation with the margins of the system, but it is a serious fissure. 71% of those consulted are convinced that American politics has touched its lowest point. A detachment that strikes the marrow of the American Dream: confidence in its democracy. The percentage of those who are no longer proud of it has tripled in three years (from 18% to 36%) and already reaches the highest number, even among Republicans, over the last 20 years. These are signs of constant erosion. The decline of an era that advances to forced marches and whose causes citizens identify clarity. These include the weight of "money in politics" (65%), rich donors (56%), extremism (56%), Donald Trump (51%), but also media (49%) and political correctness (41%). Many challenges for a presidency that has overturned to keep its electoral nucleus active rather than to open up and seek conciliation.
