February ends as Baltimore's warmest on record

Baltimore likely set a new mark for its warmest February on record this month, based on preliminary data from the National Weather Service.

With a high of 65 degrees and low of 40 degrees Tuesday, the 11th day to hit at least the 60s since Feb. 6, the month finished nearly 8.5 degrees warmer than normal.

Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport averaged about 44.2 degrees over the month, compared to a norm of 35.7 degrees.

That surpasses a record average of 44 degrees from February 1976.

It would even be slightly above normal for March, which averages just under 44 degrees in Baltimore.

Meteorological spring begins Wednesday with more unusual warmth -- highs are forecast in the upper 70s. But then wintry weather returns -- some light snow is possible Friday, and lows are expected in the 20s early Saturday morning.
