After the 0:3 against Karlsruher SC, SV Sandhausen parted ways with coach Schwartz. Those responsible have not yet found a successor, but it should happen quickly.
Sandhausen (dpa / lsw) – The again discouraged and unimaginative appearance of SV Sandhausen cost coach Alois Schwartz the job. A few hours after the 3-0 defeat against Karlsruher SC, the bottom team of the 2nd Bundesliga announced the separation from the previous head coach and his assistant Dimitrios Moutas on Sunday evening.
“Of course it’s not an easy moment for me. Everyone knows what SV Sandhausen means to me,” said Schwartz. “I’m convinced that we would have achieved our big goal of staying up. But I accept the decision.” Schwartz had already coached SVS between 2013 and 2016 before moving to 1. FC Nürnberg.
In the past four competitive games, Sandhausen neither scored a point nor did the SVS score a goal. A balance that prompted President Jürgen Machmeier to change something. “I’m very sorry on a personal level. We tried everything and stuck with him for a long time. After two staid performances against Düsseldorf and Karlsruhe, we were forced to react,” said President Jürgen Machmeier. Managing director Volker Piegsa called the decision “there was no alternative”.
No interim solution has yet been found. But those in charge of the SVS now want to try to find a short-term solution. The aim is to allow the new head coach as many training sessions with the team as possible before the game at 1. FC Nürnberg next Saturday, it was said in conclusion.
The 55-year-old Schwartz took over the SVS for the second time on September 22, 2021 and led to the league. This season, under his leadership, five wins and four draws in 21 league games. With a point behind the relegation place, Sandhausen is currently in last place in the table. In the DFB Cup, the SVS failed in the round of 16 at last year’s finalists SC Freiburg (0:2).
