Munich (dpa/lby) - According to initial evaluations, autumn 2022 was at least the third warmest in Bavaria since measurements began across the board in 1881. With a provisional average temperature of 10.1 degrees, the period between September and November inclusive could even be the second warmest autumn in Bavaria since the start of measurements, announced the German Weather Service (DWD) on Wednesday in Munich. In order to get clarity, the experts would have to evaluate the latest data.
According to a DWD spokesman, the warmest Bavarian autumn was recorded in 2006 - with an average of 10.9 degrees. Autumn 2014 was in second place with 10.1 degrees. "The value for this year could change by a tenth of a degree after the final evaluation, so the order could also change," said the DWD spokesman.
In any case, the average autumn temperature in Bavaria was significantly (2.2 degrees) above the long-term average for the comparative period from 1961 to 1990. At 248 liters per square meter, there was also more precipitation than the long-term average (204), at the same time the Bavarians were able to 350 hours a little more sunshine than the average of the reference period (335).
