Mannheim is first city in Germany to have a night mayor. The student Hendrik Meier is now to mediate in disputes about night life between clubs, residents and city. The idea originally came from Amsterdam, and or cities like New York now have a "night Mayor".
Forty people had originally applied to post, ten of which came into current final. The list was about restaurateurs, musicians and artists. The decision between two women and eight men was met by a jury of representatives of club scene and city council toger with audience.
From August, Meier is officially employed for 50 hours as a central contact partner. For this he receives a fee of 1,190 euro from funds of city's founding center startup Mannheim.
