‘Outlander’ Star Caitriona Balfe Says Fans Ask Her This All The Time

Outlanderfans are very passionate, and no one knows that better than star Caitriona Balfe. At the Oscar Wilde Awards in Los Angeles, the actress told reporters that audiences are always asking about what’s coming up next on the Starz drama.

“They want to know everything about the show,” she laughed to Red Carpet Report. “They want all the spoilers, but of course, I can’t give them any.”

Even readers of Diana Gabaldon’s “Outlander” series want spoilers. They want to know how closely showrunner Ronald D. Moore will follow the books. The announcement that “Outlander” will not return until September (meaning hiatus is more than a year long) has likely only made fans more interested in spoilers.

Luckily, Balfe managed to tease some storylines later in the night. She confirmed to Vulture that Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire’s marriage would still be passionate, despite the drama’s 20-year time jump.

“In terms of the sex, I think old people have good sex too, last I heard!” she said. Readers already knew that though. They are excitedly waiting to see Jamie and Claire reunite in a print shop.

Though Balfe is only 37, her character is about 50 in “Outlander” Season 3. “It was an interesting challenge to play older,” she said. “That was the fun part about this season: to sort of take that and try to see what 20 years of life does to a person.”

Season 3 will show Jamie and Claire’s separate lives at first. The show will dive into what Claire’s doomed relationship with Frank (Tobias Menzies) is like and show them raising Jamie’s daughter in the 20th century. Eventually, however, she’ll get back to her love in 18th century Scotland.

“Outlander” Season 3 premieres on Starz in September.
