Details of Samsung Galaxy S8 have been leaked yet again. Phone leaker Evan Blass (@evleaks) posted a render of the device on his Twitter account on Tuesday.
A couple of days earlier, on Sunday, Samsung finally announced the launch date for the Galaxy S8 — March 29, at the company’s Unpacked event. However, it referred to the device as its “next flagship smartphone” without naming the device.
Since the leak comes from Blass, there is a huge probability that it could be accurate. Blass has been accurate about many smartphone related leaks in the past. In fact, his leaked renders of Sony Xperia XZ Premium, posted Sunday, were actually the same as the official images. This might as well be the first official image of the Samsung Galaxy S8.
Looking at the image, some rumors can be put to rest, while others might turn out to be true.
The image shows a handset with the same form factor as the Samsung Galaxy S7, although the device seems slightly longer and wider. The display is an edge-to-edge one and there seems a sort of cursor on the right side of the device, which would presumably let users access some functionality on the device.
There is definitely no home button on the device, but there still are physical buttons — something that debunks earlier rumors that the device could have just virtual buttons instead of physical ones. One thing stands out — there are two buttons on the left side of the device and one on the right. The buttons on the left are presumably the volume rocker and the power button, but the purpose of the other button seems a mystery. Could it be the rumored Bixby button, placed on the right side of the device, instead of the unlikely placement alongside the camera, which had surfaced in rumors?
Samsung is expected to come out with 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch variants of the device, called the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus. The Galaxy S8 Plus would replace the Edge variant in earlier generations of the device since an edge-to-edge display on the Galaxy S8 would have made it redundant.
Another thing that seems peculiar about the device, based on the render, is that the display seems wider than regular devices. There is high probability that Samsung might go for an 18:9 screen ratio display, similar to the one on the LG G6.
While Samsung hasn’t officially revealed any details about the Galaxy S8, we will get to know more when the phone launches on March 29.
