Trump's spending budget program sends a 'very powerful message': spending budget director

President Trump's budget program sends a "extremely powerful message" that he desires to move spending "from overseas to back in this nation," Mick Mulvaney, the administration's Office of Management and Budget Director, mentioned on ABC's "Good Morning America" these days.

"The president is carrying out what he'd say he'd do when he ran," Mulvaney said to ABC News chief anchor George Stephanopoulos. "What you see in this spending budget is precisely what the president ran on."

Mulvaney, a former South Carolina congressman and favored of Tea Party Republicans, was sworn in earlier this month right after becoming confirmed by a narrow 51-49 vote in the GOP-controlled Senate.

Stephanopoulos asked Mulvaney on "GMA" if the president would also attempt to minimize the federal deficit and how he could do that if he greatly boosts military spending with out touching Social Safety or Medicare.

Mulvaney said that subject will call for "larger discussions for a further day."
