On Thursday, he announced he was giving up his basketball job to concentrate on being an athletic director.

"I thought about it during this past season and did some soul searching for a few weeks," Reinhart said. "I didn't consult my wife or my father. This was a decision I made on my own. It was just the right time for me to do it."

Reinhart, 51, built the basketball program into one of the state's best. But he always felt guilty during the winter because he was unable to devote as much time to the other sports as an athletic director. The boys soccer team made it to the state title game, but Reinhart had to miss the final three postseason games because his team was still playing.

"We had tremendous success in building not only the basketball program but all sports at the school," Reinhart said. "It's a big job. I just felt it was time to let that one chapter go."

Thanks to his father, Reinhart had basketball in his blood. Bob Reinhart played basketball at Indiana University and went on to coach at Decatur (Ga.) High School, where he won three state titles. He went on to become a scout and has two NBA championship rings with the Miami Heat.

On March 22, he will be inducted into Indiana's Hall of Fame.

Reinhart played on his father's state title team in 1982 and took over the Decatur program as head coach from 1994-98.

The following season, Reinhart was hired as athletic director at Berkeley Prep. A year later, he was coaching the Buccaneers' basketball program. After going 8-21 his first season, Reinhart turned the program into a consistent playoff contender.

He finishes with a 428-188 overall record and was 335-160 at Berkeley. He led the Buccaneers to playoff appearances in 13 of the 14 seasons, including state semifinals appearances in 2012 and '14. Reinhart also is the only Hillsborough County coach to win the Kingdom of the Sun tournament.

Now, Reinhart is in the process of finding his replacement. He said there is no timetable on the search.

"I'm sure it's going to be an attractive job opening," Reinhart said. "As with all our sports, we want to make sure we find the right coaching fit. I told my players I'm as vested as anyone in this hiring process."
