2 heroin distribution arrests made by Hunterdon County task force

The Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office announced Friday that two people have been arrested on heroin distribution charges in two investigations.

Alvin J. Wise, 33, of Orange, was arrested on Wednesday. Authorities learned through a joint investigation by the Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office Gangs, Guns, & Narcotics Task Force and the Clinton Township Police Department that Wise would be coming to Clinton Township to sell heroin, Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns, III said.

As detectives moved in to arrest Wise, he fled northbound on Route 31 in a vehicle. He was stopped and arrested a short time later in Lebanon Township, Kearns said.

Wise was charged with third-degree conspiracy to distribute heroin, second-degree eluding and ticketed for numerous motor-vehicle violations, police said.

"I would like to thank the Clinton Township Police Department, Lebanon Township Police Department and the New Jersey State Police Perryville Barracks for their assistance," Kearns said. "Due to the expertise and professionalism of the law enforcement officers involved they were able to safely apprehend the defendant without undue risk to the public."

Wise is being held in the Somerset County Jail in Somerville before his first court appearance.

A second person, Cory Mitchell, 24, of Milford, was arrested in Kingwood Township on Feb. 16 and charged with third-degree distribution of heroin and possession of heroin, Kearns said. Mitchell was released pending a court appearance. His arrest was also the result of an investigation by the Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office Gangs, Guns, & Narcotics Task Force.

Wise's arrest was jointly announced by Kearns, Chief of Detectives John J. Kuczynski and Clinton Township Police Officer in Charge Doug Higgins.
