"795 corona deaths since Monday" - the current corona numbers explained for you

66,003 corona cases were reported to the RKI yesterday.

In the previous week comparison, there is a clear minus of 28 percent.

This is the eighth consecutive business day of a week-on-week decline.

And: the current value is the lowest for one working day since June 16th.

The 7-day incidence continues to fall today, from 607 to 578.

It falls in 15 of the 16 federal states, the exception being Hamburg.

In a week-on-week comparison, all 16 federal states are still in the red.

The incidence also falls below 800 in Hesse and Saarland.

This means that all federal states are now in the relatively narrow band between 300 and 800.

The development is similar at the level of the 412 urban and rural districts.

On the one hand, the number of districts with an incidence of more than 1000 continues to fall to 15 (a week ago it was 71).

On the other hand, apart from an obvious reporting glitch in the Bavarian district of Günzburg, there is not a single district with an incidence below 200 and only eight that are below 300.

117 corona deaths were reported to the RKI yesterday.

This brings us to almost 800 deaths in the current week, more precisely: 795.

In a calendar week comparison, this already corresponds to a 10-week high.

The 7-day average was 53 in mid-June. It is now more than twice as high, at 114.

This increase is in line with what was to be expected in the wake of the summer wave:

Experience has shown that the number of deaths follows the number of cases about three weeks apart.

This also happens now.

The case mortality rate has so far remained in the same range as it has been established since the beginning of the omicron wave, namely less than 0.15 percent.

The number of deaths continues to follow the familiar pattern, should they reach their peak in about a week and a half – and then decline.
