An earthquake of magnitude 6.4 shook the waters in the central region of Solomon Islands, in the South Pacific, without the authorities initially informing damage or issued an alert of Tsunami.
The United States Geological Service (USGS), which monitors world seismic activity, took the hypocenter at 22 kilometers deep under the seabed and 146 kilometers west of the town of Bala, with almost 3,000 inhabitants, and 172 northwest of Honiara, the capital of the archipelago.
The Pacific Tsunami Alerts Center indicated in a statement that according to the available data does not expect the telluric movement from providing a tsunami.
The Solomon Islands settle on the so-called "Pacific Fire Ring", an area of great seismic and volcanic activity shaken by some 7,000 tremors a year, mostly moderate.
