At least 18 people have died and five others have been injured in a traffic accident in the state of Bengal, in East India, official sources reported.
"Deeply afflicted by the death of 18 people and the wounds to another five in the district of Nadia, after the vehicle in which they traveled clasped against a truck parked on one side of the road," said Governor of Bengal, Jagdeep Dhankar, on Twitter.
The head of government of the region, Mamata Banerjee, also resorted to Twitter to express his condolences by the event, which took place on Saturday night, and to ensure that the authorities of the region "will provide all the help needed to support the Family of the victims ".
According to sources of the Hanskali police station, where the event took place, cited by the local newspaper Times of India, passengers were going to a nearby crematoria to attend a funeral.
Traffic accidents in India are frequent because of the poor condition of the roads, the precarious conditions of some vehicles and the little respect for the norms of circulation.
