At least a dozen civilians killed by error in India in a security operation

Several civilians have resulted after Indian security forces opened fire against them by mistake, in an operation against the insurgency in the Indian state of Nagaland, in a border area with Burma (Myanmar).

The Ministry of Indian Defense "deeply regrets the incident and its consequences. The cause of the unfortunate loss of life is being investigated at the highest level and the appropriate measures will be taken in accordance with the law," he said in a statement.

The note, which did not require the number of dead civilians or when the facts occurred, explained that the operation in the Zone of Tiru, the District of Mon, of Nagaland, was planned "on the basis of reliable information about the probable movement of insurgents ".

The statement also added that several soldiers suffered injuries and one of them died because of them.

Local media place the number of dead civilians in at least one, more than half of them produced after a unit of special forces opened fire against a truck that transported day laborers from a nearby town.

Following this, a group of enraged inhabitants attacked a quarter of the forces which resulted in a violent confrontation that left several victims.

Indian Interior Minister Amit Shah expressed his anguish "by an unfortunate incident in Oting, Nagaland", while assured that a high-level commission constituted by the regional government "will thoroughly investigate" to ensure that justice is done .

The head of government of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio, also used the social network to affirm that "the unfortunate incident that caused the death of civilians in oting (....) is extremely condemnable."

India for decades for decades to several insurgent groups that fight for the independence of a territory that includes part of the Indian territory and part of Burma, based on their ethnic origin.
