Fortnite, Wolf or Street Fighter men: Thus Magic Letters arrive at other universes

The last set of the Magic Letters, Adventures in Forgotten Realms, explores the world of dragons and dungeon (D & D), in which it is practically the first fusion of universes since in their beginnings Wizards of the Coast, owner of both, launched a Edition centered on a thousand and one nights. In that case it was more of looking for a story without an intellectual property with which to launch a quick expansion of a game whose success exceeded all its expectations. Now, in its Magic Showcase 2021 the company has just announced crosses with Fortnite, Street Fighter, Warhammer 40,000 and the Lord of the Rings.

These new universes are framed in what is called, precisely, Beyond Universes. Under this name there are several intellectual properties that carry out collaborations with Magic, although until recently they were limited to special editions with characters from The Walking Dead or Transformers, alternative versions of Godzilla letters and another collaboration already announced with Stranger Things.

Throughout its almost 30 years of history, Magic has followed the wanderings of several main characters. The first ones outlined in Alpha, the release edition, and the universe was growing with each expansion. Some of the legends of him and leaders of it appear in several cards, lead COMMANDER mallets and even starring a Netflix series.

The game is increasingly successful -e as the Post Malone musician, the actors Joe Manganiello or Jacob Bertrand and the player of the NFL Cassius Marsh openly show his hobby - and partly it is due to his constant expansion, which makes each Visit edition (or revisit) A new world: there are based on Greek mythology, fairy tales or horror stories. And now the nut goes one more lap that will take these stories that, except for exceptions, are closer to the classical fantasy of sorcerers, dragons and swords, to a Japan full of neons reminiscent of the future of Blade Runner or a world of demons MAFIOS similar to the Chicago of the dry law.

The already penultimate step has been the one that has merged Magic with dragons and dungeons. In this case, the peculiarity is that it is not to adapt a mythology, universe or tradition to the world in which the letters exist, but to make letters based on the historic role play and that they do not have continuity within the history of Magic.

"We have been working in this regard for several years," explains Blake Rasmussen, spokesman for Wizards of the Coast. "Once we decided to cross Magic with other worlds was something we wanted to do, dragons and dungeons was the most obvious place we could direct," he continues.

Rasmussen also recalls that creating each expansion "has been", so the passage through these dungeons began some time ago, although on this occasion they counted with the help of the D & D team, which belongs to the same house. "If you are a D & D follower, you will see some of your monsters, characters or spells in the Magic world; If you are a fan of Magic, you will discover an expansion that explores a new world and fun mechanics even if you do not know anything about dragons and dungeons" argue Rasmussen. "And if you do not know any of the worlds, the combination of both can be enough for you to make you," he adds.

The reception, counts, has been "fantastic" and "has burst" your expectations. His collaboration with The Walking Dead had a lot of success and took a step that he had not been given until then: legal letters that only exist in his versions alien to the franchise. Over the next few months, others from Street Fighter and Alternative Versions of Fortnite will arrive, which will join Warhammer 40,000 decks and to the edition based on the Lord of the Rings. That, without forgetting those inspired by other worlds, such as classical terror (and even with Lovecraftian cosmic touches) of Innistrad, the next expansion of Magic cards that have left behind their universe.
