Last February, Amazon announced the installation of smart cameras in the distribution vehicles in the US. What a priori was a measure that improved the safety of drivers has become another polemic more about possible practices of the company in labor relations with its employees.
In total, four cameras were installed with artificial intelligence (IA) that provide 270 degree coverage: one looks out through the windshield, two towards the side windows and another towards the driver.
Already in March, media as Business Insider claim that devices could constitute an intrusion into the privacy of drivers. They even posed doubts in their operation, since they recorded a yawn as a serious problem of drowsiness at the wheel.
Several of these drivers are denouncing that every time they look left or right to verify driving security, the camera emits a sound warning so they do not look at the road's eyes.
The problem for these employees is that their salary is play, because an important part of payment represent the PLUSES. The money that SO is the fixed part of the contract is being drawn drastically, because when you exceed a certain number of infractions, Amazon eliminates the safe driving bonus.
These denunciations are added to the possible marathon sessions of these drivers to arrive on time to all deals. Sometimes, employees have had to use bottles to urinate inside the vehicle so as not to waste time stopping at service stations.Updated Date: 23 September 2021, 08:41
