It's not you, the mobiles are increasingly expensive

Each time we pay more for our smartphones and not only when we buy an iphone or samsung of last generation. According to the consultancy GFK, which has just made public its report on the global mobile telephony market in the year 2021, the average price of acquisition The terminals grew approximately 15% last year.

The reasons are several, but from the consultant they point to the problems of logistics and the shortage of semiconductors as clear influences in this trend. In 2020 the average acquisition price of a smartphone was $ 318, about 282 euros to change. Last year, however, the average amount disbursed by the consumers of a new terminal amounted to 368 dollars, about 326 euros to change.

Towards the end of the year the figure even was even higher. This is the time of year in which Apple renews its catalog of iPhones, and that usually has a clear effect on the average price of the terminals sold. From October to December 2021, the average price of smartphones was $ 392, 6.5% above the annual average.

This increase in price has helped reduce the impact of the fall in sales by number of units. "Even though the global smartphone market ended 2021 with income growth, it should be noted that sales figures in the second half of the year fell significantly, almost 10.6% compared to the same period of the previous year "Explains Jan Lorbach, head of GFK in telecommunications and consumer technology.

Along with supply problems, the other reason for the price increase has been the arrival of 5G, which is encouraging users to renew their phones, although only 25% of consumers consider it a priority. When buying, storage capacity and battery are still the main factors that are taken into account.

The report, published a few days before starting the Mobile World Congress of Barcelona, also points out the good behavior of health-centered electronics devices, in space smart watches.

In total, this group of products registered an increase of 36% by volume of business and represent a market of 13,800 million dollars (about 12,200 million euros).

The impulse is mainly due to the pandemic, which has triggered interest in devices with several sensors to monitor health data.

Devices with a blood oxygen measuring function, for example, duplicated their weight in global market income from 33% by 2020 to 67% by 2021, while devices with a sleep monitoring function increased their participation In income from 67% to 93%. The consultancy expects that in 2022 the growth trend is on these devices remain.
