Mar Menor: The General Budgets of the State face the Executive again with the Government of Murcia

"Desolate". This is how the Regional Government of Murcia defines the draft general budgets of the State (PGE) with respect to the Menor Sea, in statements to this medium from the Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Environment of this Community. "The situation is exactly the same as that of the 2020 PGE, where the smaller sea did not appear anywhere under the promise of European funds that, a year later, have not arrived," he added.

Just a week since the citizenship went out into the street to protest for the survival of the Menor Sea. But the confrontation between the central and regional administration continues, decorated the 75,000 voices that were manifested in Murcia to finish the disputes and already act. The discussion is now in the budgets of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (Mikec) to develop possible solutions.

"We regret, one more year, that there are no specific games for the lower sea in the PGE, which is in a critical situation. Like all Spain, we have defined the actions that must be carried out for the protection and recovery of the ecosystem and We need investments, "says Counselor Antonio Luengo, who, however, has" 55 million euros "of the regional budgets of 2021. This item would be dedicated to" permanent monitoring of the ecosystem; the withdrawal of biomass; construction. of storm tanks; new water collectors to avoid leaks to the ecosystem; or improvements in debugging systems and bioreactors ".

After reviewing the draft PGE, this medium finds two things. On the one hand, there is no departure with the Name of Mar Menor. On the other, the MITECO budget is reduced by 27.5% in its non-energy competences. These two points contrast, for example, with the commitment of Minister Teresa Ribera with the Green Sea Belt, a face measure that is not within reach of the region. It is about recovering the natural area around the salt lagoon, which requires eliminating crops and restore wetlands.

Since Mikeco, they will ensure that they will allocate "317 million euros" to the lower sea and explain these two issues. "There has never been an exclusive game" for the lagoon. In addition, the amount of the action programs has not yet been assigned. The ministry expects to obtain European Next Generation funds to tackle the green belt and other projects, hence the reduction of its non-energy budget.

According to Mikeco, these funds will be reversed in the recovery, transformation and resilience plan (PRTR) with which it is planned to "transfer 8,712.1 million euros" to the Autonomous Communities. "That PRTR money is channeled into the general budgets of the State through the different lines of action of the General Directorates, in this case, the General Water and Coast Directorate, there is no Subparagraph Murcia-Mar Menor," he explains he.
