Russia registers at least 34 dead and 24 hospitalized by massive intoxication with adulterated spirit

Russia's authorities have confirmed that at least 34 people have died because of the intake of adulterated spirit in the province of Oremburg, located to the southwest of the country. And, as local authorities confirm, another 24 are hospitalized for the same reason.

Seven of the hospitalized people are serious and four of them, admitted with a fan.

Researchers have opened criminal cases against the company after what happened and have already arrested 10 people for the production and sale of illegal alcohol, as reported by the Agency TASS. "There are 67 victims who know, 24 of which they have died," has confirmed the local government.

The police seized 2,000 bottles of alcohol on Saturday and said he had identified in his interior methanol, a component that is toxic.

It is not the first time that massive cases of alcohol poisoning are detected in Russia. In 2016, 77 people died in Siberia by drinking adulterated oil with methylated alcohol. The Russians have had for a long time the reputation of being one of the world's largest alcohol drinkers, although consumption has decreased in recent years, falling from 2003 to 2016, according to the World Health Organization.
