Spain received in June 2.2 million tourists, almost double that in the month of May (1.4 million), when in Spain there were still restrictions on the state of alarm. If compared to the Prepairymia Year (2019), when 8.8 million arrived, it means having lost 6.6 million foreigners, but if we take as a reference last year, growth is almost 1000%.
In June 2020, the first year of the pandemic, the borders were still closed and our country only 204,272 foreigners arrived. The sector has always defended that as soon as the restrictions were raised, the tourism was recovering little by little.
The data from the survey of tourism movements in June borders published today by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) yes show a slight recovery of tourism month by month but far from the pre-Covid levels.
In the first six months of this year, 5.4 million tourists came to our country, half that in the same period of 2020 (10.8 million). The pandemic exploded in the month of March and, therefore, until that month foreigners could reach normally. In 2019 we had visited more than 38 million.
UK, which has always been our main issuing market, is not even in the equation. The countries of origin of those who have visited us in these six months are France, Germany, the Netherlands and the rest of Europe.
In six months, only 273,000 British came to our country. Only in June 2019, almost 2.1 million had arrived. In the same month last year just 8,000. The restrictions imposed by London to tourism are weighing.
On the contrary, Germany and France resist and grow other markets such as Switzerland, which adds 3.6% more visitors with respect to the same period last year.Updated Date: 03 August 2021, 19:01
