50 years after the granting of the Nobel Prize for Literature to the Chilean Poet Pablo Neruda, the Swedish Academy has declined the DCELIBERATIONS that led that ruling. The Svenska Dagbladet newspaper has published the minutes of those days and has revealed that some members of the jury already sensed that Neruda's election was going to be a problem in the history of Nobel.
90 candidates were considered for the 1971 Nobel. In addition to Neruda, the Latin American José María Arguedas, Jorge Luis Borges and Alejo Carpentier.henrich Böll, Elias Canetti, Günter Grass, Graham Greene, Eugéne ilesto and André Malraux were also candidates W.h. Auden and Patrick White were tied as finalists of the Nobel.
The academy's failure was announced on September 13, 1971. Two years just later, the Chilean army gave a coup d'état and triggered a campaign of brutal repression against Chilean communists.
