A total of 493,776 people lost their lives in Spain by 2020, 17.93% more than the previous year, while 341,315 babies saw the light in the country, a fall of 5.35% compared to 2019.

This is how it follows from the definitive results of births, deaths and marriages corresponding to 2020, a year marked by the outbreak of the pandemic of the Coronavirus, published on Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

In this sense, 493,776 people failed in Spain by 2020, an increase of 17.93% compared to 2019. Of the total deceased, 249,664 were men (+ 17.39%) and 244,112 women (+ 18.49%).

In turn, in 2020, 341,315 natives were produced, a fall of 5.35% compared to 2019, of which 166,473 were of girls (-4.92%) and 174,842 of children (-5.76%).

In the same way, 264,128 of births were starring mothers of Spanish nationality (-5.68%), while 77,187 proceeded from foreign mothers (-4.20%).

Thus, the gross birth rate in Spain is at 7.19 births for every thousand inhabitants, a decrease of 5.55% compared to 2019, being the focusing indicator of fertility (the number of children per woman) of 1 , 19 (-4.03%) and the Middle Ages of Maternity of 32.32 years (+ 0.24%).

For its part, the gross mortality rate was 10.40 kilbos per thousand inhabitants, 17.72% more than a year before, while the infant mortality rate (under one year) was placed in 2.59 deaths per thousand live births (-2.01%).

Life expectancy at birth was 82.33 years, a drop of 1.49% compared to what happened in 2019.

On the other hand, a total of 90,670 marriages were recorded in Spain by 2020, 45.55% less than a year earlier. In 71,925 of these bonds both spouses are Spanish (-47.35%), at 15,707 one is foreign (-37.59%) and in 3,038 the two are foreigners (-36%).

Spain met 87,481 weddings between spouses of different sex (-45.79%) and 3,189 links between people of the same sex (-37.97%).

Finally, the gross nuptyridge rate was 1.91 marriages every thousand inhabitants, a fall of 45.65% compared to 2019.
