Three people have died by winding a train to a group of four who were on the road next to San Juan de Luz (Southwest, a few kilometers from the Spanish border), and the fourth is in critical condition, the RTL station reported .
The accident occurred towards 04.00 GMT and the Judicial Police is in the place to investigate its causes.
Apparently, the four people were lying on the tracks when the regional train rolled them.
Bayonna's Prosecutor's Office advanced the possibility that the victims were immigrants who had crossed from Spain, hypothesis that resumed the mayor of Ciboure, Eneko Aldana-Douat, in statements to the BFM TV channel.
"The victims are immigrants who slept or were lying next to the tracks," he said.
The Regidor added that "many immigrants go through the area" after entering irregularly from Spain and that, "due to the police pressure," come out of the main roads, as the highway that rises from the border to Bordeaux and Paris, and opt for Traffic through the railway and other roads.
Railway traffic on the Bordeaux-Hendaya line was interrupted in the area, although it is being resumed progressively, the State Railway Company SNCF reported.
