More than 50% of the population of the Europe Region of the World Health Organization (WHO) will have contracted the ÓMicron variant of Coronavirus in the next two months, if the rate of transmission is maintained, as the institution has been warned on Tuesday.

"At this rate (...) it is expected that more than 50% of the population of the region will have been infected with the omicron variant in six or eight years to come", as the director of the European region of the WHO, Hans Kluge.

At the same press conference he has underlined that this variant has several mutations "capable of easily fixed to human cells" and affect people who have already suffered the COVID-19 and are vaccinated.
