With his band Mumford

Marcus Mumford has been silent for 30 years. But now the frontman of the British folk rock band Mumford

The 35-year-old processed the event in his new song "Cannibal" - the first single from his first solo album. "Like many other people - and I'm learning more about it the further we go and the more I play it to people - I was sexually abused as a child," says the musician in an interview with "GQ" magazine.

Mumford explains that he was six years old at the time of the incident, adding: "It wasn't in the family and it wasn't in the church, which some people might assume."

According to the singer, neither his friends nor his family knew about the crime. Even his mother only found out about it after hearing his song. The song begins with the lines, "I can still taste you, and I hate it. That wasn't a decision in a child's mind, and you knew it."

After completing his band Mumford's "Delta" tour

He then went into trauma therapy and soon after began producing music as a solo artist, explains Mumford. The songs on his debut album "Self-Titled" are about his anger, but also about acceptance and forgiveness. The record will be released on September 16th.
