Baker Mayfield and the Browns lost their bridge when a member of the team informed Chris Mortensen, ESPN, that they wanted an adult to sit in the room. With Mayfield now in the Panthers' hands, it's not surprising that more leaks are coming out of Cleveland.
Jason Lloyd, of TheAthletic.com, recently wrote that Browns "widely viewed Mayfield as childish and unmature."
Lloyd of Mayfield was also added: "His behavior annoyed his teammates and divided the locker rooms. He was difficult to coach.
Based on what was seen in public, none of this is surprising. During press conferences, Mayfield was sometimes agitated. After the 2021 victory over the Lions in which he was victorious, Mayfield refused to speak to reporters.
His apparent beef with Odell Jr. led to him most aligned behind OBJ. Mayfield was reportedly miffed by a number of events last year, including the fact the in-house radio station had criticized him.
It does feel at times like the Browns don't respect Mayfield. This is especially true since he played last year despite injuring his shoulder in Week 2. After the season, Mayfield was still the Browns' quarterback until 2022 when they decided to keep him if they couldn’t find a better one.
It is not clear who should be held responsible. Most likely both. The G.M. It was clear that things were not working with the G.M. Everyone needed to move on.
Each side can tell reporters their version of events, and most likely both sides will. If Mayfield wins over Sam Darnold, the best news is that he will make his Panthers debut against the Browns.
The Browns will be vindicated even if Mayfield does not.
