Prosecutors announced Friday that no charges will be brought against the South Carolina man who shot and killed a Jet Skier he had attempted to rescue.

According to an news released by the Oconee County Sheriff's Office, two Jet Skiers, one man and one woman, fell into Lake Keowee, Salem, South Carolina on Tuesday. They were rescued from the water by another man on a pontoonboat.

Officials have not made the identities of the women in the water or the couple on the boat public. Officials stated that Nathan Drew Morgan was the deceased Jet Skier in a statement.

Officials stated that the Jet Skiers did not have life jackets and were rescued by the pontoon boat. The Jet Skiers continued driving in circles in the water after they were rescued.

Morgan became aggressive once he was on the pontoon boat.

Officials stated that Morgan wanted to go back to the watercraft and continued to drive through the water, despite not having anyone aboard.

The rescuer pushed Morgan into water to calm the situation. Morgan was brought back on to the pontoon by the rescue woman, and the man on board shot him. He was afraid for his safety.

Morgan was killed in the pontoon boat.

After reviewing all evidence, the prosecutors declared the shooting self-defense. They also announced that they would not press charges.

Officials stated that the Oconee County Sheriff's Office asked for prayers for Nathan Drew Morgan's family.

According to the statement, all parties were notified that they could not proceed with criminal charges.
