Actress has skin cancer: Doreen Dietel keeps the diagnosis secret from her son

A few weeks ago, Doreen Dietel made her skin cancer diagnosis public. She is "all to blame for it," says the actress, referring to her regular visits to the solarium. However, she keeps the illness a secret from her son.

Doreen Dietel is currently going through difficult times. As the actress recently announced, she was diagnosed with black skin cancer after a skin screening. Since then, the 47-year-old has had to undergo multiple surgeries to remove the tumors. More OPS are to follow soon, because "even more must be cut away", as she now reveals to the "Bild" newspaper.

The "Dahoam ist Dahoam" actress takes responsibility for her diagnosis. She was "all to blame for it," Dietel told the "Bunte". Since she was always ashamed of her light skin color, she went to the tanning salon regularly. "I've had a solarium flat rate since I was 19, so you could lie down on a sun lounger every day for 30 marks." A decision she now bitterly regrets.

But the reality TV actress is not only annoyed by her own behavior, but also by her health insurance company. Because she obviously didn't want to pay for the expensive skin screening. "That's a high bill that I got there," Dietel told the "Bunte". "I then sent it to the health insurance company and they refused to pay even a cent." The consequences: "Many people don't do that. They don't do this screening, which is very important. Otherwise I wouldn't have recognized the (cancer, editor's note)."

The 47-year-old is very open about the disease with her fans. She wants to use her fame to educate and appeals on social media to go to regular check-ups and to use sunscreen with a high sun protection factor. She only concealed the diagnosis from her eight-year-old son Marlow. "He's afraid for mommy anyway, because I was always gone pretty early to shoot and because I work a lot," said Dietel in an interview with RTL. Instead, with a view to her small operations, she told him that she had to "have a tick cut out".

Doreen Dietel became known in the 1990s through TV and film roles. Among other things, she was involved in productions such as "Tatort", "Der Bulle von Tölz", "Bei aller Liebe" and "Dahoam ist Dahoam". Recently she was mainly in reality TV formats like "I'm a star – get me out of here!" and "Prominently Separated - The Villa of the Exiles".
