Aer Lingus cancels flights after Covid absence

After cancelling 11 flights that passed through Irish airports on Friday, Aer Lingus apologized.

The airline blamed Covid-19 shortage among staff as well as industrial action taken in France.

It stated that it would contact the affected passengers to offer alternate services.

A Friday flight from Dublin to New York was one of the affected flights.

Other flights were affected, including a return flight from Dublin to Bilbao, a service between Bordeaux and London Gatwick, as well as return flights between Dublin to Gatwick and Knock to Gatwick.

The Amsterdam Schipol Airport placed a limit on the number of passengers that can be handled. This has led to cancellations of flights to the Dutch capital.

Last weekend, many of the same routes were cancelled by Covid-19 cases. Services were also disrupted at Lyon Airport, France, due to industrial action by ground handlers.

The airline stated in a statement that it had "built appropriate buffers within our plans" to handle a return of travel demand.

It said that there were "considerable operational difficulties" at certain airports and that Covid cases have increased in recent days.
