He has been in front of the camera for more than 50 years, starring in numerous Hollywood classics such as "Wild Bunch" and "American Graffiti". Actor Bo Hopkins has died at the age of 80.

After more than five decades in front of numerous film cameras, US actor Bo Hopkins is dead. His wife Sian confirmed this to the "Hollywood Reporter". Accordingly, Hopkins suffered a heart attack in early May. On Saturday he closed his eyes forever in a Los Angeles hospital at the age of 80. He was best known for his roles in Hollywood classics such as "The Wild Bunch" and "American Graffiti".

The US actor's website said in a statement: "Bo loved hearing from his fans around the world and while he hasn't been able to reply to every email over the past few years, he really appreciated to hear from each and every one of you."

Hopkins has been making big blockbusters since the 1960s. He made a name for himself primarily through roles as a villain, for example in "The Wild Bunch" (1969), "Getaway" (1972), "American Graffiti" (1973), "The Tiger Rushing the Pack" (1973) or "12 o'clock at night - Midnight Express" (1978).

He is also known for playing the sheriff in Quentin Tarantino's From Dusk Till Dawn 2 - Texas Blood Money (1999). He has also appeared in the series The Denver Clan, The A-Team, Charlie's Angels and Murder is Her Hobby.

Most recently, he played a supporting role in the Netflix drama "Hillbilly Elegy" (2020) alongside Glenn Close. Hopkins is survived by his wife Sian and their two children, Jane and Matthew.
