After a long illness: TV presenter Andrea Otto died

For years, Andrea Otto reported on major sporting events on TV. Her profession was primarily winter sports. In addition, she presented regional news on BR. Now the 47-year-old succumbed to the consequences of a serious illness.

The TV presenter Andrea Otto is dead. She was 47 years old and died on Friday after a long illness, as announced by Bayerischer Rundfunk. She moderated the "Abendschau" and sports programs for the station. She leaves behind a husband and a daughter.

As the broadcaster further reported, the trained bookseller has been working for the broadcaster since 2003. The first stations were various radio stations. Later she reported, among other things, on major sporting events. Among them were five Olympic Games and several world championships. The focus was on winter sports. But she didn't just report on sports - according to the broadcaster, she was an enthusiastic athlete herself.

Her work in the "Abendschau" began ten years ago. In one of the last phone calls to the broadcaster, she was confident about her recovery and asked for candles to be lit for her. At the end of 2020, she had taken time off to take care of her family and her health.

"If you get angry, you're wasting your life" was her motto. "When she entered the editorial office, the day was suddenly a little sunnier," writes the BR in its obituary. "Andrea Otto's happiness would have lasted for many dozen years."
