After chainsaw use: public prosecutor investigates Jens Lehmann

The garage that blocks Jens Lehmann's view of Lake Starnberg is probably still there. The fact that the former national soccer goalkeeper is said to have tackled the building with a chainsaw has consequences. The public prosecutor's office has started the investigation.

Jens Lehmann was sure to be mocked and ridiculed after the news of his alleged "chainsaw massacre" circulated. But now the former goalkeeper of the German national soccer team may also face serious legal consequences. As several media reports unanimously, the public prosecutor's office is now investigating him for damage to property.

The "Bild" newspaper, for example, quotes a spokesman for the authority: "The Munich II public prosecutor's office is conducting investigations against a 52-year-old from the Starnberg district on suspicion of property damage." Lehmann is not mentioned by name. But it is clear who the suspect is.

The incident made national headlines at the end of July. According to the current state of knowledge, Lehmann is said to have climbed onto the roof of a neighbor's garage and there with a chainsaw to have beaten the roof beams. The resulting property damage is said to amount to a few hundred euros.

Actually, Lehmann had probably planned to escape undetected after the crime. He is said to have previously severed the cable of a surveillance camera. However, since this simply continued to run using the battery, his action was still filmed, according to the reports in July.

The trigger for the act is said to have been a neighborhood dispute that had been smoldering for a long time. Accordingly, Lehmann feels sensitively disturbed in his villa on Lake Starnberg with his view of the water from the garage.

It is not the first and not the last scandal for which Lehmann was already good. Only shortly after his alleged freak out with the chainsaw was it reported that he was threatened with a three-month driving ban because of speeding. He is said to have been traveling 61 km/h too fast for that.
