"Aging has changed": Cameron Diaz enjoys late motherhood

Until the 2000s, Cameron Diaz was one of the hottest stars in Hollywood. But then the actress retires to start a family. For her daughter, she wants to "be 110 years old," she now says about her late happiness as a mother.

Cameron Diaz retired from the spotlight eight years ago. The last role she appeared on screen was as Colleen Hannigan in the musical adaptation 'Annie' (2014). Since then, the ex-actress, who gave birth for the first time in December 2019 at the age of 47, has mainly focused on her family.

Diaz seems to be doing well in the role of late mom, as she revealed now in conversation with her longtime friend Gwyneth Paltrow for "Goop". Accordingly, their attitude towards the topic of old age has changed in the meantime. "The whole concept of aging has changed completely, even in the last 10 years," Diaz said. "It's opened up completely. I'm thrilled. I have 50 or 60 years to live - I want to live to be 110 since I had a young kid."

Diaz has two-year-old daughter Raddix with her husband, Good Charlotte musician Benji Madden. And a very specific goal: "I think there's that wonderful moment in your forties where you appreciate who your parents are and I want to have that moment with her too - to be with her in her forties."

Diaz also believes her genes will help her with that. According to the entrepreneur, who owns her own wine brand, her family is made of "solid wood". "My grandmother was 72 running through the hot San Fernando Valley sun, lugging around big sacks of rabbit feed and chicken feed. I think I got something out of it."

The fact that she is "the oldest mother in my group of friends with children" is not a problem for her - she gets a lot of support, says Diaz. "I'm happy to be my age, happy to have these girlfriends, happy to have my daughter, happy to have all the support to raise her," the 49-year-old concluded.
