The Colombian government reported the arrest in Colombia of the Venezuelan citizen Sergio Tarache Parra, 21, who was denounced for burning his ex-partner alive in downtown Lima and for which Peru requested his extradition.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs that Mr. Sergio Tarache Parra, a Venezuelan national, was detained in Colombian territory on April 12, 2023, based on a red notice from Interpol, at the request of the Republic of Peru", announced the Colombian Foreign Ministry in a statement.
Colombia has already informed Peru of said arrest and both countries are working "to find the most expeditious procedure that allows the prompt delivery of Mr. Tarache Parra to the Peruvian authorities, in compliance with the internal and international regulations applicable to the case."
Tarache is accused of femicide, after, according to what was recorded in images from the security cameras in downtown Lima on March 18, he argued with Katherine Gómez, 19, in Plaza Dos de Mayo, and immediately afterwards told her douse the body with gasoline and set it on fire.
The young woman burning in flames was helped by passers-by, but that attack caused burns on 60% of her body and she died after a week hospitalized in Lima.
Seriously injured, the girl identified her assailant, while the man ran from the scene and later the National Police offered 50,000 soles (about $13,300) for his location.
