Being a crocodile farmer is a very dangerous job. Dealing with these animals is a task that requires dexterity, mettle and a lot of cold blood, since any carelessness can lead to a horrible death. And that's what happened to a 77-year-old farmer from Cambodia.
The man was torn to pieces by about 40 crocodiles after falling into the animal enclosure at his family reptile farm, police said. The farmer was trying to get a crocodile out of a cage in which it had just laid eggs when the animal grabbed the stick he was using and dragged him into the enclosure.
The reptiles then pounced on him and tore him to pieces, leaving the place covered in blood, Siem Reap police chief Mey Savry told AFP. The official said that the remains of the man were covered in bites, and that the animals tore off and ate one of his arms.
At another farm in the same town, a two-year-old girl was eaten by crocodiles in 2019, the police chief recalled.
Siem Reap is the access city to the famous ruins of Angkor Wat, and has numerous crocodile farms, which are raised in the area for the sale of their eggs, skin and meat.
