Aurelie Dupont quits her post as Paris Opera's director of dance

Aurelie Dupont will be leaving her position as director of Paris Opera dance on July 31 in order to "devote herself to personal project", according to the institution.

According to a press release, the ex-star dancer who was challenged by dancers during her tenure will now embark on projects "of an book, a documentary movie and a musical and to her family". Alexander Neef (director general, Paris Opera) accepted his surprise resignation.

Aurelie Dupont (49) had succeeded Benjamin Millepied. He was a renowned choreographer and husband to Natalie Portman.

According to the Opera's press release, she "enjoyed freedom of action which allowed her to utilize her programming skills which attracted large audience, with the ballet performance filling in rate reaching 98% for 21/22 season". "Aurelie Dupont proposed 18 new creations for the company. There were 23 entries in the repertoire. The nomination of 7 stars dancers was also made," adds the text.

Two years after his mandate began, in spring 2018, a document at the Paris Opera had the impact of a bombshell: An internal survey revealed the frustrations of dancers of one the most prestigious global companies and attacked its director in an unprecedented manner.

Some people denounced the lack of support while others condemned the lack of communication. Aurelie Dupont then announced that she would have regular meetings with dancers.
