Baden-Württemberg: 400 speeders caught in motorcycle controls in the southwest

Stuttgart (dpa/lsw) - In the fight against accidents and noise, the police checked around 5,500 motorcyclists nationwide last month. Around 400 of them drove too fast, as Baden-Württemberg Interior Minister Thomas Strobl (CDU) summed up in Stuttgart on Sunday.

680 motorcycles had been technically manipulated in an illegal way. A total of 1,600 violations were identified during the police action, which ran throughout the month.

"The number of speed violations is pleasingly low in relation to the number of motorcycles checked," said Strobl, according to his ministry. The majority of bikers follow the rules. However, there is still a need for action, as the head of department made clear: in May, seven motorcyclists died in accidents.
