Baden-Württemberg: 51 pairs of women's shoes smuggled: fine

Bühl (dpa / lsw) - Because he is said to have smuggled 51 pairs of women's shoes across the Swiss border, a man from Serbia has to pay a higher fine. According to the main customs office in Karlsruhe on Thursday, his vehicle registered in France was checked at the beginning of the week on the A5 northbound at the Bühl rest area (Rastatt district). The customs officials discovered a wooden box under the desk chairs and tires, in which the high-quality shoes with an estimated value of around 7,700 euros were.

Since the man could not present any customs documents with an invoice, criminal proceedings were instituted against him for tax evasion. The shoes were retained to secure import duties. A security deposit of 1000 euros was charged. According to customs estimates, the evaded duties amount to around 2,200 euros. According to the authority, all goods imported into Germany from a non-EU country must first be cleared through customs.
