Baden-Württemberg: 9-euro ticket also starts in the south-west

By train to Lake Constance and the Black Forest - for nine euros a month this is now possible on local transport as often as you want. Is the first overload looming on the long Pentecost weekend?

Stuttgart (dpa/lsw) - As of today (00.00 a.m.) travelers and commuters can also use their 9-euro tickets for journeys in local public transport in the south-west. In June, July and August, journeys with these special tickets are possible throughout Germany.

Deutsche Bahn had announced that it would also prepare for the expected rush in the southwest and expand its capacities for the start of the special ticket. Additional staff will be deployed on the platforms at some large and heavily frequented stations.

According to the Stuttgart Ministry of Transport, special attention is paid to routes that are already popular under normal conditions. Examples are the Frankenbahn, the routes towards Lake Constance and the Murgtäler Freizeitexpress, which travels to the Black Forest.

Around seven million of the special tickets were sold nationwide until shortly before the start, as reported by the Association of German Transport Companies (VDV). Hundreds of thousands of tickets went to customers in the southwest - according to the regional VDV association, there is no precise number. "Sales are going very well," said Managing Director Ulrich Weber of the German Press Agency in Stuttgart. The long Pentecost weekend in particular will now show whether the capacities can cope with the strong demand.

With the offer, the federal government wants to relieve citizens in the face of inflation and make switching to public transport more attractive.
