Baden-Württemberg: AfD cancels the state party conference and postpones it to mid-July

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The Baden-Württemberg AfD has canceled its state party conference planned for this weekend with the election of a new chairman and postponed it to mid-July. The congress is now scheduled to take place on July 16th and 17th at the Messe Stuttgart. This was confirmed on Thursday by the AfD and the operator of the Carl Benz Arena, where the party conference was actually supposed to be held.

The party explained that the reason for the transfer was that the owner of Stuttgart's Carl Benz Arena had terminated the operator at short notice, so that the event had to be cancelled. The AfD state board spoke of an "anti-democratic act" by the owner of the Carl Benz Arena: It is the Carl Benz Center Objekt GmbH

Sascha Penna, operator of the Carl Benz Arena, confirmed the termination to the German Press Agency, but spoke of pending proceedings. He had already canceled the party conference in mid-June because of security concerns. But the Stuttgart Regional Court granted an urgent application by the AfD on Monday. The hall operator was obliged to fulfill the contract with the AfD.

Penna explained that because of the security concerns, the party was then approached again and the transfer suggested. "We came to an amicable agreement." The contract was terminated and the AfD was promised to reimburse the additional costs for the fair. The party also confirmed this.
