Baden-Württemberg: After the accident: the dormouse family probably moved out

Leonberg (dpa / lsw) - Actually, the dormouse family, which was discovered at the weekend in a traffic light in Leonberg (Böblingen district), should be relocated on Tuesday. But when city employees wanted to take action together with a wildlife conservationist, the rodents had disappeared, a city spokesman announced on Wednesday. It is unclear why the animals, which are under species protection, independently moved out of the traffic lights.

On Wednesday, a rodent was then spotted near the traffic light, which is probably the mother animal. "It is likely that the animal is looking for an alternative for the nest," said the spokesman. That's why the city decided to have the Nature Conservation Union (Nabu) attach three devices to trees nearby, in which the dormice can build a nest, the so-called Kobel. However, these still have to be taken care of.

On Thursday, city employees want to check again whether the dormouse family has returned to the traffic light. However, that is unlikely, the spokesman said.

The traffic light in Leonberg is expected to be repaired on Friday. According to the city, this had been damaged by the dormouse and failed - which indirectly led to an accident. A driver disregarded the applicable right-of-way rules at the broken traffic light on Saturday and collided with another car. Three people in the two cars were slightly injured. They came to the hospital.

The SWR had first reported on the move of the rodents from the traffic light.
