Heidelberg (dpa / lsw) - After the decision of an SPD arbitration commission for former chancellor Gerhard Schröder to remain in the party, only the local association ofleutenbach (Rems-Murr-Kreis) in the south-west appealed. According to the Heidelberg SPD district association, this and the local sections of Lauchringen (Waldshut district) and Waiblingen (Rems-Murr district) are doing without it.

The deputy head of the SPD in the university town, Tim Tugendhat, said on Thursday that there was no longer a chance for the ex-chancellor to be expelled, even if he had shown himself unworthy of this function. Because he has stopped his involvement in Russian companies. "If he wanted to do something good for the party now, he should leave voluntarily," said Tugendhat.

Even if only one branch in the Southwest wants to go to the next instance, nationwide it is about half of the 17 party branches that have applied for the expulsion of the former Chancellor from the party.

At the beginning of August, the arbitration commission responsible for the SPD subdistrict in the Hanover region saw no violation of party rules in Schröder's commitment to Russia. There is no basis for a complaint or even a party exclusion.
