Baden-Württemberg: After the outbreak of swine fever: Exclusion zone lifted

Forchheim (dpa / lsw) - After the outbreak of African swine fever in a farm in Forchheim at the end of May, the situation eased. In the three districts of Emmendingen, Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald and Ortenaukreis, the general animal health decrees to combat the spread of African swine fever will be lifted on Thursday. From Friday, pig farms will be allowed to transport their animals again.

After the outbreak in Forchheim (Emmendingen district), a restricted zone was set up in a radius of around 10 kilometers around the company. Farmers were forbidden to bring pigs in or out of this zone. The measure affected 59 pig farms.

African swine fever is a viral infection that is harmless to humans. However, it is highly contagious for domestic pigs and wild pigs and is usually fatal. The first case in Germany was detected on September 10, 2020 in a wild boar in Brandenburg.

Since African swine fever continues to pose a great danger to the animals, the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district is asking the population to dispose of raw sausage products in such a way that wild animals cannot come into contact with them. In addition, farmers are still called on to take precautionary measures and hunters to increase monitoring.
