Baden-Württemberg: Airport: The project for free public transport tickets is on hold

In winter 2019, Stuttgart Airport announced a pilot project for free public transport tickets. Then Corona came. The project is now on hold - also because of the 9-euro ticket.

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Stuttgart Airport has for the time being said goodbye to its idea of offering arriving passengers free local transport tickets as a test. "The project is not being pursued at the moment," said a spokeswoman for the airport of the German Press Agency in Stuttgart on request. There is no specific date for a possible start.

In December 2019, the airport announced the temporary pilot project for spring 2020. "We are the first airport in Germany with such an innovative offer," said the then managing director of the airport, Arina Freitag, according to the announcement.

However, the planned start was anticipated by Corona, the spokeswoman said. The passenger development was not very representative, which is why the project was not started. Due to the pandemic, the situation has changed significantly since then, and for a new start, all partners involved would have to work out the financing again. "But we are still in contact with the project partners and could take up the project again if there is a new reason for it," said the spokeswoman.

The aim of the project was to get more travelers to switch to local public transport. This is now happening in many other ways. According to the spokeswoman, if there were to be general offers such as the 9-euro ticket, a local offer only for arriving passengers would basically be superfluous.
