Baden-Württemberg: Archaeologists discover prehistoric graves in a gravel pit

Engen (dpa / lsw) - Archaeologists have discovered two graves in a gravel pit in Engen (Constance district). According to information from the district office on Sunday, one contains a very well-preserved skeleton, probably of an adult man. Close by is another burial pit, in which the skeletons of an infant and a small child lay one on top of the other, so that one of the children may have been buried afterwards. According to the report, the grave construction and the location of the graves speak for a prehistoric age of the finds. The archaeologists are not yet able to give a more precise age of the burials, since no grave goods have been preserved in either of the burial pits.

According to the district office, the gravel terrace south of the Engen district of Anselfingen is rich in archaeological treasures.
