Baden-Württemberg: Archdiocese: limit the temperature in churches to ten degrees

Freiburg (dpa/lsw) - Due to the energy crisis, the Archdiocese of Freiburg has recommended limiting the temperature in a church to ten degrees Celsius during use this winter. The parishes would also have to pay attention to frost protection and the optimum humidity in the places of worship, the Archbishop's Ordinariat announced on Wednesday in Freiburg.

The savings recommendations are not just about cutting costs. "For us, as the Catholic Church, it is important to send a sign of solidarity into society," said Vicar General Christoph Neubrand, according to a statement. The Archdiocese has long been committed to combating climate change and is pursuing the goal of climate neutrality.

The Archdiocese of Freiburg encompasses a large area from the Odenwald in the north across the Upper Rhine Plain and the Black Forest to the High Rhine and Lake Constance. According to the Archdiocese, more than 1.8 million Catholics live in the area.
