Karlsruhe (dpa/lsw) - The Argentinian composer Daniel Teruggi (born in 1952) receives the Giga Hertz Prize for electronic music and sound art, which is endowed with 10,000 euros. The Center for Art and Media (ZKM) Karlsruhe and the SWR Experimental Studio are thus honoring his life's work, as stated in a statement on Monday. Teruggi composed 90 works. In research, he has worked actively on the preservation of audiovisual collections, especially in the field of electroacoustic music.

The Giga Hertz Prize has been awarded since 2007. It is dedicated to the physicist Heinrich Hertz (1857-1894), who taught at the Karlsruhe Technical University at the end of the 19th century and discovered electromagnetic waves there. The award ceremony is planned for November 26 at the ZKM.
