Rust (dpa / lsw) - Because of a repair, passengers had to leave a roller coaster in Europa-Park in southern Baden early. People were not harmed in the incident on Sunday, said the park's founder, Roland Mack, on Tuesday on request in Rust (Ortenaukreis).
Mack responded to a report in the daily newspaper "Bild" that there had been a technical fault on the "Poseidon" water roller coaster over the weekend. Carriages of the ride had stopped, inmates had been stuck for more than half an hour, the paper reported, citing a reader reporter.
"The incident shows that our security systems are working perfectly," Mack explained. It was ultimately "a practical test with the safety measures specified by TÜV". The guests are safe in the rides.
"Since we couldn't foresee on this hot day how long the small repair would take - it was 30 minutes in the end - we got the passengers off the train as a precaution," said Mack. "That too is all precisely regulated. No one was harmed." Europa-Park is Germany's largest amusement park.
In the middle of the month in Günzburg, Swabia, there was a serious roller coaster accident with 31 injuries at the Legoland amusement park. A train ran into a train in front. Another accident had previously occurred in an amusement park in Klotten, Rhineland-Palatinate: a 57-year-old woman fell from a moving roller coaster and died.
After the accident in Klotten, Europa-Park announced that safety was "top priority". Before commissioning, technicians and the staff of the plant check the facilities on a daily basis.
