Ulm (dpa / lsw) - After the attack on a pastor in Ulm Minster, the suspect was taken to a psychiatric hospital. The investigators have concrete evidence that the accused is likely to be mentally ill, as the police and public prosecutor's office in Ulm announced on Friday.
The arrest warrant against the 28-year-old was replaced by a provisional placement order by the district court. An expert is to draw up a report on the mental state of the man.
He is suspected of having attacked a 39-year-old pastor with a knife during a service in Ulm Minster last Sunday. The suspect is said to have previously damaged six wooden figures on church pews with a knife. Then, according to the information, he approached the pastor - from about a meter away he is said to have thrust the knife in her direction several times.
The woman then dodged backwards and called for help over the microphone. The man fled, the pastor was unharmed. Police officers later arrested the suspect on Münsterplatz.
